The recently concluded three-day virtual event explored how video, phone, and messaging can further augment enterprise and business communication workflows.

The Belmont-headquartered company rolled out three key developer-centric tools geared at developers, independent creators, and RingCentral’s Independent Software Vendor (ISV) partners. The UCaaS provider has introduced over 70 APIs for new integrations with the RingCentral to power the next wave of ‘future of communications.’

Here are three key announcements from the 2020 developer conference:

1. High-Volume SMS API

Leveraging the RingCentral open platform, high-volume SMS API enables users to send updates via text messages rapidly. Currently, in beta, the service API can also build customized applications for tailor-made business communications.

Previously, organizations had to procure a new number and program it for SMS services. With the new SMS API, users can take any existing business number, extension, or other U.S.-based phone numbers to send commercial SMS messages. RingCentral estimates users can send nearly 250,000 messages per day.

It can also send one-off messages or batch requests and provide access to message status, logs, store, and analytics to gain advanced insights through data.

Michael BrandenburgOpens a new window , a Senior Industry Analyst, Frost & Sullivan, said, “We are seeing businesses and developers increasingly turning to programmable communications to automate workflows, enhance customer engagement, and ultimately sustain and grow their business.”

High-volume SMS service is available on the RingCentral Open Platform and can be integrated with Video and Phone APIs.

2. Video Support in RingCentral Embeddable

RingCentral Embeddable has been around for over a year now. The solution was developed primarily to streamline user workflow by incorporating voice and SMS services directly within mission-critical applications, thereby eliminating the need to toggle between multiple apps.

Some of its other capabilities include account record screen pop with an inbound call, click-to-dial, click-to-SMS, messages, call logging & history, and access to softphone settings.

At Code Together 2020, RingCentral announced video support for RingCentral Embeddable. This means developers will now be able to embed videos in enterprise apps in addition to existing SMS and phone capabilities. The function is wholly customizable both in terms of aesthetic and functional design elements.

3. Call Streaming APIs

Call streamline APIs are a great way to enable greater control over customer support services in contact centers. Call streaming APIs or RingCentral Call Monitoring allows users to receive a live stream of an ongoing call.

Through these APIs, supervisors can:

  • Monitor calls in real-time: Managers can listen in from desk phones or RingCentral for Desktop.
  • Whisper to your employees: A supervisor can offer suggestions, ideas, tips, or references right into an ongoing call without the customer knowing about it.
  • Jump into calls: A supervisor can enter the call and speak to both the agent and the customer/client. They can also take over a call if needed.
  • Record calls: Can be enabled either automatically or manually.

Call streaming APIs can prove to be a great way to identify agent weaknesses, areas of improvement, and provide appropriate training.
