- Bluesky faced challenges running its platform following Elon Musk’s tweet announcing the intention to remove the Block feature from X.
- The Bluesky platform faced significantly slower response times, with the blame being laid on a massive influx of X users migrating to Bluesky after Musk’s message.
Bluesky, a popular alternative to X, formerly known as Twitter, struggled with operations following Elon Musk’s announcement that X would get rid of the block function used in Twitter. Instead, the revamped platform would now use a mute function.
Soon after Elon Musk’s post became public, users on Bluesky started seeing significantly slower load times when viewing posts, with error messages popping up occasionally. This included images and graphics on the platform. The status page of the website indicated that the performance issue was being investigated.
In recent months, Bluesky has often faced an influx of users when X (Twitter) announced controversial and unwelcome changes. This factor has been speculated behind the latest problems at Bluesky. However, Bluesky has not confirmed the cause of the issues as yet. Third-party sources have confirmed that Bluesky saw over 5,000 new registrations in 24 hours following the Musk tweet, ten times more than the usual signup rate.

The problem is expected to exacerbate after a glitch on the X platform caused all images and links posted before December 2014 to be deleted. Furthermore, In July 2023, Bluesky was forced to temporarily halt new signups as a large number of users migrated from Twitter after the social network put a limit on the number of tweets users could view per day. The long-term impacts of the sweeping changes enacted at X remain to be seen.
