Exabeam and Snowflake Join Forces to Automate Data Security in Cloud

Leading cloud data warehousing provider Snowflake has partnered with cybersecurity firm Exabeam in a move to help enterprises apply intelligence and automation capabilities to data stored in Snowflake data lakes.

The partnership will involve the integration of Exabeam’s security analysis and automation tools with the data stored within Snowflake. This will help organizations identify risks to their data and respond swiftly to incidents across their entire business ecosystem.

The new tie-up with Exabeam is part of Snowflake’s goal to build partnerships with security vendors with the intent of deploying security applications on top of its cloud data services. By helping organizations move their data and security to the cloud, Snowflake aims to reduce the attack surface and automate security analysis of data repositories.

Last year, the company partnered with Protegrity to integrate Protegrity’s data de-identification technology with its cloud data platform. The integration delivered a data analytics platform that adhered to cloud-data governance and security standards and ensured privacy protection protocols for sensitive data such as Personally Identifiable Data and Protected Health Information.

A strategic partnership with Google in 2019 also enabled Snowflake’s customers to securely store data on Google Cloud and leverage its performance, scalability, and security. It also allowed organizations to use Snowflake with Google Cloud’s advanced analytics and machine learning solutions to gain meaningful insights from different data sources.

“Companies need a solution that not only can juggle the rapid increase of data, but also guard against adversaries looking to exploit the data – especially in the cloud. The joint solution (Exabeam & Snowflake) will advance the customers’ overall security by automating the entire workflow from data collection through response, enabling quick and consistent outcomes,” said Sam HumphriesOpens a new window , senior security strategist at Exabeam.

Thanks to the partnership, Exabeam’s security analytics, and automation will augment Snowflake data lakes. The combination of the Exabeam Cloud Connector for Snowflake and Exabeam Advanced Analytics will enable organizations to apply intelligence automation capabilities to data stored within the Snowflake platform.

The Exabeam Cloud Connector for Snowflake will act as a bridge for integrating Exabeam SaaS Cloud with  Snowflake Data Cloud. Exabeam’s tools will provide continuous and real-time mapping of logs stored within Snowflake, giving organizations visibility into abnormal activity and the ability to detect malicious insiders or attacks involving the use of stolen credentials.

Exabeam Cloud Connectors also collect logs from over 40 different cloud services, including AWS, GitHub, Google, Salesforce, etc., and feed them into the Exabeam Data Lake, Exabeam Advanced Analytics, and any other SIEM solutions to secure cloud environments. With Cloud Connectors, updates occur whenever there are API changes, and organizations don’t need coding skills or costly services to ensure the right data is collected.

Cloud Connectors also allow companies to easily collect logs from cloud services and combine them with data from on-premises applications to improve the detection of attacker tactics, techniques, and procedures using behavior-based threat detection.

“Snowflake’s unique architecture eliminates data silos, providing organizations a single scalable and cost-effective platform for all their data, while Exabeam’s security analytics adds intelligence and automation to strengthen an organization’s ability to identify and respond to cyberthreats across subsidiaries, geographies and public cloud providers,” said Omer Singer, Head of Cybersecurity Strategy at Snowflake.

The partnership between Exabeam and Snowflake not only eliminates the need for a separate security data repository, it also ensures the automation of data collection for continuous monitoring of Snowflake logs in real-time. Besides Exabeam, Snowflake is also working with Hunters.ai and Lacework to strengthen its cloud data platform with security solutions.
