60% Organizations Postponing Security Investment: Exabeam Survey

SIEM company ExabeamOpens a new window surveyed more than 1000 IT security professionals at SMBs, including CISOs, SOCs, security engineers/analysts and security architects. The results are published in “The Exabeam 2020 State of the SOC ReportOpens a new window .” 80% of respondents saw ‘slightly to considerably more’ cyberattack attempts, breaking down to 88%in the U.S. and 74% in the U.K. 40% and 38% of companies in the U.K. and U.S. respectively experienced network downtime owing to a cyber-attack during the pandemic.

ITSM Effectiveness Not Impacted by Going Remote: ManageEngine Survey

Zoho Corporation’s I.T. management division, ManageEngine, conducted a survey of over 500 IT professionals that have gone remote due to the pandemic. The survey, “The State of ITSM in the COVID-19 PandemicOpens a new window ” highlighted that moving to remote work distanced employees from the data and tools on the organization’s local network. 78% of professionals solved the issues by migrating everything to the cloud. 72% of ITSMs experience no change in effectiveness after shifting remote.

92% Experiencing Success With Microservices: O’Reilly Report

O’Reilly, the premier source for insight-driven learning on technology and business, today released the findings of its latest survey, ‘Microservices Adoption in 2020Opens a new window .” The report says that out of the surveyed 1,502 software engineers, systems and technical architects, engineers, and decision-makers, 77% of respondents have adopted microservices, of which 92% are experiencing success with the technology.

13% of Phishing Attacks in Q1 Related to COVID: Positive Technologies Report

Positive Technologies’ survey titled “Cybersecurity threatscape Q1 2020Opens a new window ” says that 13% of all phishing attacks that happened in the first quarter of the year are related to COVID, of which 44% targeted individuals and about 20% targeted governments. More than 34% of malware attacks were ransomware.

“Cybercriminals are quick to capitalize on major events and news, launching attacks that prey on victims’ fears and worries. COVID-19 has been no different. Our research shows a significant increase in the percentage of malware and social engineering attacks targeted at government agencies during Q1 2020, which was most likely the result of attacks related to the pandemic. It’s critically important for organizations to ensure they have multilayered malware protection in place, regularly educate employees on cyber risks and seek professional security assessments in order to protect their assets and reputation from today’s threats,” said Yana Avezova, an analyst at Positive Technologies, with Toolbox.

68% Data Remains Unused: Seagate Report

Data storage and management solutions Seagate Technologies surveyed 1500 global enterprise leaders and combined the outcomes in the “Rethink Data: Put More of Your Data to Work—From Edge to CloudOpens a new window .” The report highlighted that organizational data has a growth rate of about 42.2% every year. Out of this, only 32% of data is put to work, with almost 68% of the data that organizations own remainingunused.

92% of Top Websites Provide Attackers with Access to Customer Data: Tala Security Report

Data protection and client-side security company, Tala Security, has released the Global Data at Risk – 2020 State of the Web ReportOpens a new window . The report states that 58% of the content displayed on the customer browser is delivered by third-party JavaScript, which makes around 92% of websites lose data to almost 17 domains. The study also found that 97% of websites are using dangerous JavaScript functions that could serve as injection points to initiate a DOM XSS attack.

“JavaScript powers today’s rich, highly customized web experience and enables digital transformation across all industry sectors. The fact that it remains largely unguarded is both surprising and disappointing.” said Aanand Krishnan, founder, and CEO of Tala Security, exclusively to Toolbox. “Websites generate massive volumes of high-value data, making them a primary target for attackers. The fundamental issue with the way today’s websites are secured is that user data is greatly exposed to third-party applications and services and that data leakage is occurring even from trusted third-party resources. It’s imperative that organizations keep security top-of-mind and pay much closer attention to what has become a pervasive attack vector.”
