The initiative aims to sell 25,000 NFTs to raise funds for the philanthropic mission. The proceeds will split into two parts – 20% will go to NGOs supporting Ukrainian artists and the artists themselves. The remaining 80% will go to the Ensemble Ukraine group, the campaign’s organizer, to fund humanitarian efforts.

As the conflict between Russia and Ukraine worsens, cryptocurrency, particularly NFTs, is becoming increasingly crucial for overseas donors looking to help Ukraine. Scality’s CEO Jerome Lecat is the most recent addition to the roster of donors. He will be spearheading a humanitarian non-fungible token (NFT) auction with #TogetherUkr, an NFT collection created by prominent artists to support the people of Ukraine.

On Friday, Apr 15, 2022, the initiative will commence on Togetherukr’s official websiteOpens a new window . Through the project, the stakeholders aim to sell 25,000 NFTs to generate cash for the charitable mission organized by nonprofit group #EnsembleUkraine, in cooperation with the Paris Blockchain Summit to empower Ukrainian artists.

The sale is supposed to end once the entire collection is sold. The #EnsembleUkraine group, which is backed by France Digitale, the Galion Project, and the French Tech Mission, has two goals: to aid Ukrainians and help Ukrainian artists. The money from the sale will be split as follows:

  • The NGOs aiding Ukrainian artists and the Ukrainian artists participating in the NFT auction will get 20% of the proceeds.
  • 80% of the funds will go straight to #EnsembleUkraine to support its humanitarian efforts.

“I am surprised by the thousands of spontaneous citizen initiatives in support of the Ukrainian people, and I am proud to be part of them with Ensemble Ukraine,” said Lecat. “Let’s use NFTs for a good cause. If you already have a collection of NFTs or have always wanted to invest in an NFT but didn’t know where to start. This is for you. We are committed to doing everything in our power to change the course of history and help peace and democracy triumph.”

The auction will include NFTs by Ukrainian street artist Roman Chizz, whose work is based on human-machine cooperation. Ukrainian painters Anastasiia Ovod, Daria Pavliuk, Vira Yakymchuk, and Yana Protasova also contributed pieces decrying the atrocities of war. Gregoire “Greg” Guillemin, a well-known neo-pop artist from France; Greek artist Frank Bakastias; and French painters Ito Dubois and Maguitte are among the artists participating in the sale.

Crypto contributions are being sought by charities worldwide to help Ukraine. Since the beginning of the war in late February, Endaoment, a major crypto donating site, has raised over $2 million for organizations supporting Ukraine.

Shift4 also announced the “Caring with Crypto” campaign on The Giving Block, a cryptocurrency fundraising platform that Shift4 just acquired to generate over $20 million for charity organizations. Through their Ukraine Emergency Response Fund, The Giving Block has already raised approximately $2 million for Ukraine relief efforts on the site, and that figure is fast growing.

Aid to war-torn Ukraine is being ramped up simultaneously. The success of cryptocurrency fundraising efforts in support of Ukraine demonstrates that cryptocurrency can be ideal for raising funds quickly.
