Slack’s Biggest Asian Rival JANDI Raises $13M

South Korea’s Toss Labs, maker of team collaboration software JANDI raises $13 million in Series B funding round.  

South Korea’s Toss Labs, maker of enterprise collaboration software JANDI, has landed $13 million in Series B. The latest funding round was led by SoftBank Ventures Asia with participation by SV Investment, Atinum Investment, Must Asset Management, Shinhan Capital, SparkLabs, and T Investment.

JANDI, a messaging-based application for workplace communications, is already a leader in Taiwan and its native South Korea. Jay Choi, Senior Associate at SoftBank Ventures Asia told Tech in AsiaOpens a new window , “Jandi has seen steady growth since it was founded in 2014, aiming to become the Slack of Asia.”

Besides messaging, JANDI also supports file sharing, employee management, file manager-based data storage on AWS, encryptionOpens a new window , and video calls for up to 300 participants. The platform can also be integrated with third-party apps like Google Calendar, Trello, Zoom, GitHub and more.

The COVID-19 shift to remote work gave a massive boost to the collaboration market.  JANDI observed an 80% jumpOpens a new window in its number of users in Asia since March. Toss Labs CEO Matthew Kim expressed the challenges posed in the Asian market with tools like WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, KakaoTalk dominating workplace collaboration. He said, “Justifying the efficiency and effectiveness of work collaboration tools like JANDI was the most significant initial challenge.”

With fresh capital infusion, JANDI will aggressively expand global operations, create and fill new positions, and grow the team by 20 to 25%.
