Smarsh Intros Text Message Archiving for Federal Agencies

The company said Federal Archive is the only FedRAMP-authorized cloud-based text archiving service currently available in the market, enabling federal agencies to meet legal and records preservation mandates.

Smarsh has launched a cloud-based mobile text message archiving solution dubbed Federal Archive for federal agencies within the U.S. Smarsh’s is the only text message archiving solution with FedRAMP Authorization, allowing federal agencies to comply with record preservation mandates as per Federal Records Act (FRA).

The fully cloudOpens a new window -based solution adheres to the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) decree and helps ease record preservation and retrieval for multiple purposes like litigation, record-keeping, compliances, catering to requests under Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and more.

The solutions allows federal agencies to:

• Capture employee mobile text messages with all accompanying metadata directly from leading mobile carriers AT&T and Verizon, and preserve the content in a secure, search-ready repository
• Perform simple and complex content searches through an intuitive user interface
• Review messages in full conversational context. Messages are threaded and not converted into email format
• Produce only the necessary messages on-demand for secure export
• Establish granular, role-based access controls and permissions

Smarsh has attained Moderate Authorization for Federal Archive under the Federal Risk and Authorization Management Program (FedRAMPOpens a new window ). Stephen Halbrook, Principal at Schellman & Company said, “FedRAMP is the most comprehensive assessment that exists in this sector. The authorization achievement is important for communicating that Smarsh has designed a SaaS offering that meets the robust FedRAMP requirements.”

The solution is based on AWS GovCloud, another FedRAMP accredited partner which recently received the highest level of accreditation, the Provisional Authority to Operate (P-ATO). Smarsh was assessed for FedRAMP by Schellman & Company, a third-party assessor. Halbrook further added, “Throughout the assessment process, the Smarsh team was a highly collaborative partner.
